Ani

The ani is a common bird on the Colegio Americano campus. They’re so ugly they’re cute. The anis on campus congregate in little groups on the ground and eat food scraps left by the children. They’re social birds and preen each other as seen in the photo. They have a communal nest, and they share the the tasks of incubation and feeding. In the wild, they eat termites, LARGE insects, and lizards, which are all plentiful in Ecuador.
